If the Lord is God, follow Him!

I think atheists are foolish for rejecting God, but I admire the commitment they show to their faith, or lack of it. There are a couple of atheists’ bloggers that I really admire, even though I always feel sad for them because they chose to dedicate their lives to a fallacy, instead of a God they can experience personally. Some of them, like Kevin, have such an incredible writing ability, that I wonder what would happen to them if they knew what God had planned for their lives. I ask myself ‘would they still continue being atheist if God gave them a brief preview of what He had planned for their lives’? One thing for sure, they would regret dedicating their lives to ridiculing God who had created them, and given them such talents.

For some weird reason, I enjoy spending time with atheists than I do with some of my Christian friends. With atheists, you know you have nothing in common with them, and your purpose for hanging around them is to convert them, nothing else. But if there are people that I really don’t have patience for, is lipstick Christians, or as George Whitefield call them ‘The Almost Christians’. The ‘almost Christians’ are those who believe in God, but they are open to the possibility that there’s no God. They call themselves Christians, but they have a problem with the bible. You wonder where they get the idea of Christianity if they have a problem with the same book that first mentioned Christianity. Some of them even think God is a liar for saying He created the whole universe and humankind. They are likely to be holy on Sundays mornings, but anytime other time they are biggest sinners you can find. These are the people who think God is unfair for requiring people to be born-again before they can enter heaven. They think they are good enough for God, and they deserve heaven because of their righteousness. But I find these people to be the most annoying hypocrites in the world. And it doesn’t matter that they have been baptized in a Christian church some years ago, or their parents are elders and serve in most church committees.

The bible has a letter dedicated to these ‘almost Christians’, it says “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing’. But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked”. God says you are pitiful, poor, blind and naked, even though you think your righteousness justifies you to Him. Do you think God is harsh for saying this to ‘almost Christians’? No, He’s not. He justifies what He said by saying ‘Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline’. Even though you are an ‘almost Christian’, God still loves you and He wants you to see yourself the way He sees you. That’s why He said ‘so be earnest, and repent’. (Revelations 3:15-19).

Prophet Elijah also encountered the ‘almost Christians’ of his time, and he made a decision to tackle them head-on. He said to them “how long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal is God, then follow him” (1 Kings 18:21). How long shall you continue to be a Christian who is not committed to God, except through lip service? How long shall you continue refusing to honour God with your time and effort, except on Sunday mornings or Easter and Christmas? How long shall you continue counting on God’s favour because of your parents’ loyalty to Him? How long shall you continue living a sinful life, hoping God will give you a chance to repent just before you die? And how shall you continue insulting God by believing in insane theories like Theory of Evolution?

Elijah made a profound statement, he said “if Baal is God, then follow him”. Baal might have been an ancient god of the Middle East people of the time, but we have our own Baals that we are not prepared to leave God for. Is your Baal money, sex, girlfriend, boyfriend, education, friends, pride, fame, tv, playstations, etc? Are you not prepared to leave your boyfriend/girlfriend and serve God with your heart and soul? Are you scared your friends will laugh at you if you one day starts reading the bible and telling them that you are bon-again? Of course they will probably laugh at you, but is their approval more important than your relationship with God? Is the thought of dedicating your life fully God scaring you, because your atheist friends will think you have become stupid all of a sudden? Put your mind at ease, and remember that to atheists nobody is intelligent except atheists.

I challenge you to stop walking with one foot on Christianity and the other on atheism. If there is God, then follow Him! Take your cross and follow Jesus, wherever He may want you to go.
