Are you testing God’s patience?

If there is one element about God that we need to remember more than any other is that God loves us and His love is unconditional. There is nothing we can ever do that will make God love us less. You can be an atheist your whole life and dedicate your whole being to ridiculing God, but God’s love for you will still remain and He’ll still be willing to forgive your sins even seconds before your death. Describing this mystery of God’s love and patience towards us, Apostle Peter said “he (God) is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9 emphasis mine). God is not willing to reject any person at any point in their lives, but He is patient with everybody in the hope that at some point in their lives they will repent and be saved. But there are people who test God’s patience, to their eternal destruction.

One of the scariest scriptures I have ever read is Proverbs 29 verse 1. It says “a man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed – without remedy”. Even though God is patient with us and will never close any door of hope on our face, but our response towards His patience can lead to our destruction. When God warns you over and over again about your need for repentance, and you refuse to listen, then your heart becomes more and more hardened towards God’s warnings. This scripture tells us that it’s possible for a person’s heart to be totally shut towards God’s warnings, and when that happens then it becomes eternally improbable, if not impossible, for a person to be receptive towards calls for repentance. When that happens to a person then we know for certain the eternal destiny of such a person, as they can’t be reconciled to God, not because God is not willing but because that person has rejected God and over again.

Are you continually rejecting God over and over again? The bible says there’s a thin line that shouldn’t be crossed, and if any person does cross over it then they would be destroyed without remedy. I have seen people who have been in the church their whole lives, and they have repented in one week and went back to their sins the next week, and this they have done over and over again. They have reached a point where they are not able to be sincere towards God anymore, because they have ridiculed Him with their lives for a considerable amount of time. They took God’s warnings, love, and grace and trampled on them. God still loves them and still want to be reconciled to them, but their hearts are so hardened towards Him to their destruction.

If you continue rejecting God, then you are walking alongside that thin line, and one day your heart will be eternally stiff-necked towards God. When that happens then any hope of being reconciled to God will vanish, without remedy. God will still love you, but your heart will not be able to recognize God’s love and act on it, and your destiny will be eternity in lake of fire. Stop rejecting God, even after many rebukes, but give your life to Him when there’s still time. As the bible says: “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). Tomorrow your heart could be stiff-necked and not able to be receptive to God’s warnings, so don’t postpone your commitment to Christ any further.
