John 3:16

My older son surprised me yesterday night, when he interrupted me while watching tv and said John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. He’s 5 years old, and I should have expected him to learn a verse or two from the bible, but I didn’t expect that verse to be John 3:16 and the fact that they taught him that verse at school in today’s secular society.

Right there I wondered if he’ll remember this verse one day when he’s in his early 20s, and what it actually means. This is the same verse his great grandmother used to shout it out to people at 5am every morning, and tell them about God’s love for them. This is a verse that until a person understands what it means, then they would never find peace in this world. It describes the history, present and future of every human being in the world. When a person needs hope, John3:16 is the answer. When a person is discouraged because of evil in the world, John 3:16 is the answer. When a person wonder if there’s after-life, then John 3:16 is the answer. I hope one day my son will not only understand what John 3:16 means, but he would experience it. He could grow up to be the richest man in the world, but until he experiences this love mentioned in John 3:16 then he would be a poor, wretched sinner who will soon perish.

Do you understand what John 3:16 means? Have you experienced it?
