Is Satan trying to get you killed?

In a previous article, “Does Satan exists” (link), I mentioned how Satan got Adam and Eve to their physical death through deception, and how he continues to use the same tactics today with us. But how does Satan function today to get you killed, spiritually if not physically?

As it was with Adam and Eve, Satan still leads people to their spiritual and physical death by making them disobey God’s commands. God has given His Law in which we should live by, and he told us that they would safeguard us from premature death, but our disobedience will surely lead to our death. He gave a name to disobedience to His Law, and He called it sin. With regards to sin He said “you may be sure that your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23), and He went further and said “for the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). But Satan tells us otherwise, he tells us that there’s nothing wrong with engaging in sin, and that sin lead to our prosperity.

So let’s evaluate some of the sins that God warns us against, and see if they indeed lead to our death:

  • Adultery

God said “you shall not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). Many people think God said this because He is a control-freak who wants to control people’s lives, but they don’t realise that God doesn’t want people to get hurt and die as a result, and His intention for warning us against adultery is not for Him to be a control-freak. He illustrated His warning against adultery by saying: “can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished” (Proverbs 6:27-29). Did you read that? God said no adulterer goes unpunished, and He was saying this as a warning for people to resist engaging in adultery.

Ask any man who got divorced because of his unfaithfulness if adultery was worth it. He would tell you about the maintenance cheques he has to pay every month, and the fact that he never gets to see his children for months, if he sees them at all. He’ll also tell you that he’s probably renting a place somewhere, when he used to live in a nice paid-off house which now has another man living in it. If he trusts you then he’ll also tell you about the effect his adulterous life has had on his children. Ask yourself how many men and women have you read about in newspapers that got killed because they slept with other people’s spouses and they got caught? Each and every one of those people died because Satan had fooled them into thinking they won’t get caught, and he has led them to their death just as he led Adam and Eve to their death.

Reality is adultery leads to death, just as God warned us, yet Satan has made us think we can get away with it. He has made adultery look so appealing, and has fooled people into thinking there’s nothing wrong with it as long as they don’t get caught. Well, even though Satan promises you that will not to get caught, God says “your sin will find you out”. It may be after 20 or 50 years but adultery always catches up with us.

  • Greed

God warned us against greed; He said “you shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbour” (Exodus 20:17). God expressed this point even more when He said “be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15). How many rich people have you heard of who committed suicide because their greed caught up with them? Even though some of them were millionaires and had every little item we only dream of, they still wanted more because of their greed and they ended up losing it all. Because they couldn’t live with their shame, they decide to commit suicide.

God says “a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions”, yet Satan convinces us that our lives are defined by what we have and we should always strive to have more. I heard of a former beauty pageant winner that was amongst some of the most beautiful women in the world, yet she wasn’t satisfied with how she looked. She died during plastic surgery that was meant to curb her buttocks. Hearing of the news, one fan commented and said “You couldn’t be any more beautiful than you already were, you had to pay with your life.” Unfortunately that’s how Satan tricks us to death, he makes us thinks we are lacking something and as such we should dedicate our lives to getting more and fixing our bodies when there’s nothing wrong with them. He knows he has death traps set up for us, so he tries to lead us to them.

There are many more examples of the sins that God warned us against, which Satan somehow has convinced us that they are harmless. But as you have seen, Satan’s aim is to make you disobey God so he can lead you to death. If you disobey God, then you move outside His protection circle, and that makes you vulnerable for Satan to do as he pleases with you. You probably don’t believe Satan exists, but how do you explain the link between disobedience of God’s Law and the repercussions thereof, as stated in the bible?
