Dr James Dobson, a leading psychologist, in his interview with Larry King on CNN said homosexuality “can’t be simply genetic. I do believe that there are temperaments that individuals are born with that make them more vulnerable and maybe more likely to move in that direction, but it usually is related to a sexual identity crisis”.
There may be differing psychological views on homosexuality, where some psychologists are convinced that homosexuality is purely genetic and it is not something that a person can choose, while others like Dr Dobson are convinced that there is no genetic evidence whatsoever for it. One thing we know though is that all homosexuals hate it when they are told that their sexual preferences are not genetic and it’s just an excuse to justify their sexual indulgences. My view on the issue is that nobody is born homosexual, the same way nobody is born heterosexual. Is it possible to go to a postnatal unit of a hospital and identify homosexual and heterosexual children? It’s not possible! The truth is that when children are born their sexual preference is not known, and all we can do is identify them as males and females through their sexual organs. Even though it is possible to identify a male child from a female child by just looking at their sexual organs, reality is that their sexual desires and preferences are not determined by these organs. We know that babies do not have sexual desires, for neither same or opposite sex, even though they have sexual organs. So this is proof that sexual desires have nothing to do with one’s genetics or sexual classification, but they are developed at a later stage.
The bible however makes it clear that homosexuality is a moral issue, and not necessarily a genetics one. The bible describes homosexuality as “women exchanging natural relations for unnatural ones”, while “men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another” and “committed indecent acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion” (Romans 1:24-27). The bible doesn’t say do not be attracted to people of the same sex, but rather those of opposite sex. Instead it says do not lust in your heart after your neighbour, whether or not they are of the same or opposite sex. The bible doesn’t say it is allowed for heterosexual people to engage in sexual activities before marriage, while homosexuals are not allowed, but rather it makes it clear that all sexual activities before marriage are sinful. The bible only allows sex and lust within a marriage between a male and a female.
As a loving father that God is, He doesn’t declare homosexuality a sin so He can spite us, rather He knows the risk associated with it. In 2011, California Health Interview Surveys found that “gay men were twice as likely to have been diagnosed with cancer as straight men”. Jason Warriner, clinical director for HIV and sexual health at the Terrence Higgins Trust, said: “We know that HIV can cause certain types of cancer, and that gay men are at a greater risk of HIV than straight men. Another factor potentially having an impact is Human Papilloma Virus, which can lead to anal cancer in gay men.” Jessica Harris, senior health information officer at Cancer Research UK, said: “There is already evidence of some health inequalities as a result of sexuality, for example, smoking rates are higher in homosexual men and women than in heterosexual people.” In this Californian survey, gay men were more likely than straight men to say they had been diagnosed with cancer, but it’s not clear from this study why this might be. The survey also found that lesbian and bisexual women were more than twice as likely as heterosexual women to say they were in “fair or poor health”. Dr Ulrike Boehmer, from the Boston University School of Public Health, said: “One common explanation for why lesbian and bisexual women report worse health compared to heterosexual women is minority stress [which] suggests lesbian and bisexual women have worse health, including psychological health due to their experiences of discrimination, prejudice, and violence.”

I agree; most likely, there is no “gay gene.” Researchers looking for one are, for the most part, wasting time that could be spent on more practical research, while making themselves incredibly vulnerable to allowing confirmation bias to affect their results. You also bring up an important point that many people miss, that babies are born without a sexual orientation (unless of course the “gay gene” really does exist…) While many gay rights activists maintain that “people don’t turn gay,” this is probably not true, but neither is the common assumption that people are born straight and turn gay. I do disagree with a few of your points, which I will address shortly, however, for the most part, great post.

But HPV can lead to cervical cancer in straight females. Is it too a sin to be female? While I think most of us can agree that unprotected promiscuity with either gender is a bad idea for purely selfish and pragmatic reasons, and immoral due to the risk of infecting others, homosexuality is not inherently dangerous.

So let’s make violence and discrimination sins instead! Again, same thing as above, is it a sin to be Black?
While I would say that self harm and unnecessary risk is mere stupidity, not sin, I am not a Christian, so perhaps I wouldn’t know. While the HIV epidemic has greatly harmed the gay community, it is has also spread widely across Africa, through heterosexual intercourse, so it is clearly not limited to gays, as it was once believed to be. If God really does want to protect us from ourselves, it seems a warning away from promiscuity and towards protection, without regard to sexual orientation, would be more logical.
I can’t dispute your biblical arguments without disputing the Bible, which brings us into unrelated territory.

The research doesn’t say only gay people will be subjected to those diseases, but it’s saying there is a high risk of contracting these diseases when you are gay. We know that all kinds of people, including children get diseases like HIV, but gay people are more at risk than any other group of people. Of course black people have endured discrimination, but can you deny that black gay people endure even more discrimination? The reason I included the part about discrimination related stress was to give balance to the article, and recognise the fact that discrimination does happen against homosexuals, and hypocritically so.
